F[r] Book Club Meeting #1 Recap

21 Day Sugar Detox

We had a GREAT turnout last Wednesday night at Book Club. But for those of you who couldn’t make it, here’s a little recap:

  • Many of us felt intimidated by the amount of cooking involved with using only Diane’s meals, so Marissa shared some of her go-to dinner tips. Keep frozen shrimp and Grass fed/Pastured ground meat, poultry or sausage for chili, bolognese sauce, or Asian stir fry dishes. To make meals more filling meal without adding many calories, always have these 3 veggie staples on hand:
    • Zucchini “noodles” (can be made with a spiralizer in advance-they last 4-5 days in the fridge)
      • To cook, microwave for 1 minute on High.
      • Cauliflower “rice" (pulsed in food processor and also last a few days in the fridge.)
        • To cook, spread into a baking dish with 1 Tbsp of oil and any spice mixture. Bake at 350 deg from 20-25 minutes. Change it up and try using purple or yellow cauliflower to create a feast for your eyes.
        • Baby spinach leaves
          • Throw the main dish on top of a heap of spinach, drizzled with some delicious oil and seasoned with sea salt. Microwave for 30 sec to 1 minute to wilt.)
          • We briefly talked about our new favorite kitchen gadget, the InstantPot. It’s a pressure cooker that has 7 cook functions and helps create healthy, flavorful meals in a hurry. Check it out here: http://amzn.to/1GexuTQ

  • Another classic F[r] tip is to drink herbal tea when craving sugar. You’ll help manipulate the flavor receptors on your tongue to shift away from sweet cravings toward spice-centric tastes. The added hydration will also help cleanse the body and curb appetite. Tunie’s on PGA has some gre at choices for flavored organic teas. Marissa’s latest favorite is a sweet and spicy from a brand called Good Earth. It’s sweet without added sugar and h lps train your tongue to crave spice.

Keep up the great work at the studio! Hope to see everyone on Wednesday!
